Wants to clear the air about recent issue
This is a letter to my home town. There has been a lot of publicity recently about me receiving a police escort from City Hall. I would like to clarity my position to the community. I have made no threats to any of the city or county government officials. I just want proper notification and the opportunity to participate in public meetings, get my important questions answered, and be allowed access to public documents. But. instead of respecting my citizen rights, the city government officials have chosen to slap me with an unwarranted restraining order banning me from city hall and city hall meetings. This is not about anyone being in threat of harm, it is about suppressing my voice and questions. I guess 1 may be asking questions that make them uncomfortable.
Councilman Austin, thank you for clarifying your position in last week's editorial: "Your elected officials have every right to have informational meetings amongst themselves to make 'educated' decisions based on fact for this city.,."
Mr. Austin this could not be more untrue. "No person shall be deprived of the right to examine documents or to observe the deliberation of all public bodies."
Civil and political rights are a class of rights and freedoms that protect individuals from unwarranted action by government and ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the state without discrimination or repression.
During a hearing of this matter on May 4 the city code enforcement officer testified that she has never read either the building or zoning codes that she has supposedly been authorized to enforce. This is just on many examples of potential misconduct by the city.
The city government planning officials are refusing to answer important planning questions.
The systemic suppression of my civil liberties is affecting all of the citizens of this community. We the people should not let this become precedence. The city government officials have complained about the lack of public participation in government. But when \ visit with fellow citizens ol this community about public participation many of therr express fear of retaliation o! suppression from city govern; ment officials, in the event the; have a different point of view
I have professional qualifications that lead me to believing the city is guilty of wrongful land use practices, and these wrongful practices are causing damage to, and reduction o our property values.
The secrecy of the cit planning officials needs to come to an end. This is simply unacceptable.
